Windmakers | Demonstrating the optimal application of small and medium-sized wind turbines on agricultural and horticultural farms
With the project ‘Windmakers’ we would like to demonstrate the optimal application of small and medium-sized wind turbines on agricultural and horticultural farms. Moreover, we would like to guide and support agriculturists and horticulturists with the implementation of wind turbines. The POVLT (Proclam npo) leads this project and cooperates with Innovatiesteunpunt voor Land- en Tuinbouw, study centre 3E specialized in wind energy, and the energy knowledge platform Power-Link.
All the small and medium-sized high quality wind turbines that are now available in the market will be listed. Furthermore, guidelines will be created for the optimal implantation of such wind turbines on an agricultural farm. These guidelines will take the influence of the territory and of the obstacles on the production of the wind turbines into account. On the 4 yet to be selected companies that are willing to invest in a wind turbine, an in-depth study (micro-siting) will be executed around the location of the turbines. The profitability of these turbines will be studied and compared to PV-systems. Next to the guidance of 4 agriculturists until the actual realization, it is also the intention to develop a detailed step-by-step plan for the realization of small and medium-sized wind turbines so as to each individual agriculturist and horticulturist can get going.
If you want to join this study, please fill out the questionnaire before the 15th of November 2009. Could you please return us the completed questionnaire by mail to kelly [dot] mermuys [at] west-vlaanderen [dot] be or elvie [dot] plevoets [at] boerenbond [dot] be. The 4 selected companies will be announced early in December 2009.
This project is supported by the Flemish Government and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) during the periode July 2009 until June 2011.
