SET | Valorisation consortium sustainable energy technologies
The IOF valorisation consortium ‘Sustainable energy technologies’ (SET) focuses on every technological aspect of sustainable energy. The medium term objectives of SET are the development and commercialisation of emerging energy technologies. The emphasis is laid on the sustainability of the technologies. In other words, this is more than ‘just’ renewable energy sources.
SET concentrates first of all on the sustainable production of (thermal, mechanical or electrical) energy, e.g. electrical energy production from solar – or wind applications and the use of biofuels and biomass. Furthermore the distribution of energy is being examined e.g. the integration of renewable energy into the electrical distribution net and the energy transport. The rational energy use in various sectors, such as in buildings and industrial environments, is another point of interest. Finally the storage of energy, because of its current and exploitable potential, is another theme broached by the consortium.
By uniting research groups from different domains, an integrated approach can be offered and industrial-technological total concepts can be identified as new opportunities for the (Association) Ghent University. Moreover, the embedding of the consortium in the Ostend science park Greenbridge, with the energy knowledge platform Power-Link as leverage, offers the institution a strategic and valorization promoting perspective.
