• Nederlandse waterzuiveringsprojecten over algen

De hogeschool West-Vlaanderen, afdeling milieukunde, organiseerde op 21 oktober 2010 een trip naar de Hogeschool Zeeland en naar de waterzuiveringsinstallatie te Alkmaar. Beide instellingen zijn bezig en hebben ervaring met onderzoek en toepassingen rond algentechnologie. Dit bezoek kadert in het IWT TETRA project “algenteelt op boerderijschaal”, waarbij de mogelijkheden van algentechnologie voor water-en rookgaszuivering worden nagegaan. Dit project wordt uitgevoerd door HOWEST, afdeling milieukunde o.l.v. Han Vervaeren en KULAK, vakgroep biologie o.l.v. Koenraad Muylaert.

• AquaFUELs & European Algae Biomass

Ghent University is partner of the European Project AquaFUELs, funded by the EC Commission under the VII Framework Programme for research.

AquaFUELs focuses on establishing the state of the art on research, technological development and demonstration activities regarding the exploitation of various algal and other suitable non-food aquatic biomasses for 2nd generation biofuels production.

The European Algae Biomass Association (EABA) promotes mutual interchange and cooperation in the field of algae biomass production and use, including biofuels uses and all other utilisations. It aims at creating, developing and maintaining solidarity and links between its Members and at defending their interests at European and international level.
