Development wind turbine | Low-cost wind turbine for private use with payback period of 5 years
In this study a production line of wind turbines for families and SME-applications is being set up. More specifically, it is about the production of a small wind turbine with optimized efficiency and a practical construction.
On the basis of this study, Sytech aims at marketing a wind turbine which price can be set at 1€ cost price of the turbine against 1 kWh generated energy per year. Keeping in mind that the average price of 1 kWh for the end user amounts to 0.2€, this means that within 5 years the costs of the wind turbine can be recovered.
With the below intended innovative features, it has to be possible to generate a yield of 5.500 kWh regardless of the weather conditions. The blades will be bigger and shaped differently compared to most current types of turbines. The diameter of the blades will be variable in order to be able to modify the lower and upper limit of the energy recuperation compared to the current situation. The turbine will be constructed with multiple generators so that the no-load power at low wind speed would be variable. The turbine will be equipped with a buffer system in order to be able to work with day- and night energy. The mast will be conceived in such a way so that the wind turbine can be built without any lifting equipment to reduce the cost of construction and maintenance to a minimum.
When all the objectives are achieved we can come to a finished small wind turbine, affordable for everyone. By tackling the problems one by one and purposefully, Sytech aims at selling a lot of wind turbines in a short period of time, and thus ensuring immediately their profitability. Once the prototype of the wind turbine has been developed and the measuring results are favourable, the large-scaled production can be started.
This project is supported by IWT through a KMO innovation study during the period autumn 2009 until december 2010.
