Actions & Deliverables
The project aims to deliver answers to some major issues in ORC technology and also aims at developing methodology to further develop industrial realisations and prototypes of technological components. These methods will be used in development projects after this project.
In order to create the next generation of Organic Rankine Cycles and to facilitate market penetration of
this technology, a multi-disciplinary approach will be used focusing on 5 major challenges identified from the market survey and the industrial contacts.
- challenge 1– Improving the efficiency
- challenge 2 – Control over dynamic behavior
- challenge 3 – Reducing the design time
- challenge 4 – Test-infrastructure
- challenge 5 – Economical analysis
In a first step the multi-disciplinary research team will optimise existing systems by better understanding ORC systems from both the thermodynamic, control and economic point of view. Secondly the project aims at pushing the boundaries of technological development by introducing new components into the cycles and design the cycles for new applications. In this step all components of the cycle are targeted: heat exchangers and expanders, but also their interaction and control. Throughout the project, technological advances will be put against financial and economical boundary conditions.
